I recently got .994 + X1.2 working on the Toshiba 4400SXC. It looks
very nice! Previous versions of X had a problem with handling the
screen. My Xconfig contains the following:
# Mouse is a Microsoft ballpoint on the psaux port
PS/2 "/dev/mouse"
vga256
Virtual 800 600
Chipset "pvga1"
ModeDB
"640x480" 28 640 640 760 776 480 490 492 525
This works pretty well, but the display starts 4 (maybe 8?) dots shifted
to the left. I've tried a few dozen permutations and this seems to be
as good as I can get.
