I though I already said this in a post, but in case I'm getting mixed up,
and that was an e-mail message, let me reiterate...
I am definately *NOT* going to "force" somebody to use an operating
system that they don't feel comfortable with. I'm trying to help a very
good friend in setting up his system, and I like linux, so I figured
I'd ask around here. Many people have suggested that windows is the way
for him to go, and I can see that clearly... Windows just plain has more
and more reliable software. Windows is not "bad", but on the computer I've
had experience with (my parents' PC), it takes 10-15 seconds to just
redraw the wallpaper (a full screen bitmap, granted). It swaps to disk
so much just during the "scrolling windows" screen saver that the motion
is very noticably jerky. I hope nobody can blame me for not liking that.
It's probably a setup thing (although I haven't found the guilty parameter
in about a month of playing around on-and-off), so I'll admit, I've never
seen windows work "correctly" (I'm assuming my system is atypical).
Sorry if I sound like I'm loosing my temper. Maybe I should have
worded my original post differently.
Just as an aside, thanks, everyone who helped me out here.
