Short version:
Are there alternate superblocks in e2fsck?
Long version:
After getting XFree86 1.2 and Metrolink Motif setup to my liking,
I was feeling very satisfied with myself and thought that I ought
to get to bed.
I tried to shut down the computer and, well, Linux/X locked up and
I had to press the dreaded reset button. Unfortunately, on the way
back up I got a nasty kernel panic about a bad inode. "Don't panic"
(no pun intended) I say to myself, I've got that handy boot disk that
I made for just this occasion.
After booting from the floppy, I tried to use e2fsck to fix whatever
went wrong, but it complains about some sort of "bad block" or other
(I didn't write this down and the computer's at home) But suffice it
to say that I've given every option I can to e2fsck and it still
pukes.
I was hoping that there was some type of alternate super block or
such in e2fsck so that I could correct the problem and not have to
reload everything from floppy. Am I mistaken or is there really
no such thing?
What about the other filesystems (xiafs and linux) Do they?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Oh yeah:
386/25MHz
8 Meg Mem
16MB swap space
Linux 0.99pl9
XFree86 1.2
e2fsck 0.3
PS. If anyone knows whats wrong with X11 and why it hangs, that'd
be nice to know too.
