Subject: keyboard bug -- unknown scncode
Date: Mon, 28 Jun 1993 12:13:36 GMT

Last Thursday i compiled kernel version 0.99pl10, and after that, i
sometimes have trouble with my keyboard. Initially, everything works
normal, but sometimes when i use a screen-oriented program, like
`less' or `emacs', and i want to move up, pressing the up-arrow gives
a response like
"unknown scancode e0 36".

I think this happens only when i press two keys after each other very
quickly, but i'm not sure. Anyway, if this happens, the only way to
get things working again is to reboot.

This has happened about three times now, and it is really annoying,
although i'm glad that my keyboard still works enough to let me save
the things i'm working on. Oh, and by the way, switching to another VC
doesn't help.

For completeness, my system setup:
486DX1-50,
8 Mb RAM, 200 MB Harddisk with 16 Mb swap and 115 Mb ext2 filesystem,
VESA-LB Harddisk&floppycontroller and
VESA-LB SVGA videocard with a Cirrus Logic GD5426 in it.

I have a Focus keyboard, which has diagonal arrow keys, which send
both a horizontal and a vertical arrow to the computer. It might be
that the error is triggered by one of those keys, because those two
characters arrive to close together.

There never was excessive load, usually just editing or
fileviewing.

Does anybody else experience these problems?

TIA,

Joeri van Ruth
