It is possible, and I wouldn't describe Russ as opposed to the idea. Not
at all. It's not trivial, but certainly possible.

No. Someone needs to _do_ it, and that someone needs both a card of make
X and some expertise. Lack of such people seems to be the problem. If you
have an unsupported ethernet card and think you can do it, get the skeleton
driver for Linux, the relevant Crynwr driver for DOS and the documentation
for the card, and _do_ it. If it's not an ethernet card you have, it's a
bit worse, I don't know how bad.
