I know of two fax packages for Unix, netfax (or Gnu fax), and FlexFax
from Silicon Graphics. Both are free. FlexFax source is available
via anonymous FTP from:

sgi.com (192.48.153.1) sgi/fax/v2.1.src.tar.Z

It is written in C++, so you'll need a number of Gnu tools including
gcc 2.3.3 or better, a Postscript interpreter like ghostscript, the
libg++2.3 library, and possibly gmake, gawk, and bison. I know this
has been built on 386BSD for an Intel 486, but don't know if anyone's
done it for Linux. Good luck!
