With current version of the sound driver you have to wait at least 5
seconds before hitting ^C. The audio input is blocked. Receiving a full
32k block with the default speed of 8 kHz takes more than 4 seconds to
complete. If the command is interrupted earlier, no data will be written
to the file.

The file "endoftheworld" is not in uLaw-format. Copying it to the
/dev/audio will produce terrible output. Much better results should be
obtained by outputting it to the /dev/dsp.
