Subject: Linux+X11 hangs: a definitive solution ?
Date: Mon, 28 Jun 1993 12:55:01 GMT

Hi!
I'm reading all messages about X11 hanging up, since I too have
these problems. I can't verify if it is a Linux or X11 crash since I
don't have any terminal or network, but I think it's a kernel fault.
Infact when I use X (no matter if overloading it or not) sometimes the
system hangs leaving the hard-disk led on...
I read in kernel-0.99.pl10 READMEs (the one in net subdirs) that this
is a bug in timer.c regarding socket overload, and when I read it I thougth it
was the solution to my problems, but.... I don't link tcp and (if I'm not
wrong) timer.c is not used in the kernel at all when you omit network stuff
(socket.c is tough).

    My configuration is:
        386-40, 8Megs ram, 2 170 IDE disk (Quantum prodrive), 16 Megs swap
ET4000 with 15 bit ramdac, Logitech serial mouse.

So, any solution ?

Thanks in advance
Marco.

P.S.: please, even if this is a public intereset argument, send me an answer
      via e-mail.
