This is somewhat correct. With the current versions of
linux, they cant read the IBM's bios to get the setup of
the hard disk. Thats only if you are using the build in
ide controller. I know people who have hard coded the
disk settings in a kernel compiled on another machine and
then booted and installed the system.
Personally, I've had it running on an IBM value point
486-33 for about two months. I have an adaptec 1542b and
a micropolos 1G hard drive. SLS went on without a hitch.
So it can be installed on a Value Point. You just have
to use SCSI, or wait for the newest version of SLS, which
I'm pretty sure I remember Peter saying he was going to
configure to work.
