Subject: Rigged SLS install - should it work?
Date: 17 Jun 1993 14:47:55 GMT

Hey all - I tried my head off to install SLS 1.02 from the hard drive,
but couldn't get it to work. So I said the heck with it and manually
copied all the .tgz files to / and changed all their names to *.tar.z,
said 'gunzip *.z &', and proceeded to 'tar -xvf' each of the resulting
tar files one by one, until it was all over. I did all of them except
for the x disks since I figure I'll just install Xfree1.3 once I
upgrade to pl10.

My question is: Should this work??

Everything seems to be OK, but I have a couple of minor problems.
When I do a 'man tex' I get un-nroffed text - so if I do 'man tex |
nroff', I get a nicely formatted man page. Next problem: from the
built it 'menu' system, anytime I go to the system administration
commands menu or whatever, anytime I select one of the options there,
I get a 'menu file not found'. Can someone tell me how to fix these
things (and anything else that you think might be botched) _without_
having me reinstall. I _really_ don't want to make 30 install disks
:-).

If for some reason the menu files need to be created during install,
can someone please mail me a tar.z file with the menu file. Or better
yet, tell me how the heck to find the actual script files that build
the necessary files/links/etc. Are they part of the doinstall or
sysinstall programs? Can they be executed manually?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
