Subject: [HELP NEEDED] QIC-80 patches doesn't work with 0.99.9
Date: Tue, 15 Jun 1993 16:38:28 GMT

Hi everybody,

just got a maynard/archive tape-drive (qic-80). It works fine under DOS.
(according to this, I assume not to have barfed on hardware-installation!)

I installed the QIC-80-ALPHA patch following the README.

The module-patch worked fine.
The kernel-patch worked fine, too.

The ftape-1.02 (patched!) didn't compile during to missing command-parameters
for verify_area. I added them in the appropiate positions. Then the thing
compiled! After inserting the driver-module into the kernel I was able to
seek on the tape and to read and write some blocks but qic refused to work and
the read often failed. both user-executables cored as if they got paid for that!

Here my questions:

  - has anyone got qic80 to work on any actual kernel (pl 9-10) ?
  - are there newer or other patches than the ones on tsx and sunsite?
  - is there any known incomatibility with archive/maynard-drives ?
  - what might have gone wrong ?

Thanks in advance ,

   prefect
