From: kossack@tartarus.uwa.edu.au (Elke Kossack) Subject: [Q] HD Space used by Linux? Date: 14 Jun 1993 12:17:52 GMT
Before I get flamed I will point out the FAQ/Meta-FAQ/etc but I'm after
something a bit more specific. I will be installing the SLS Release
1.02 distribution of Linux (a, b, c and x series of disks). I know the
full system takes 65 megs (approx). I am using a standalone 486DX/33 so
a lot of the network stuff (mail, news, etc) and what I _need_ to know
is if someone has installed SLS (a/b/c/x) minus all the
"multi-user/network" sort of stuff (specific huh?) and how much disk
space this used up so I can have a good idea before I partition my hard
disk (as HD space is at a premium). Also I have 8 megs of ram so I'm
wondering how big a swap partition I should make (considering I want to
run X)? Please could people mail me with their experiences with
SLS/etc? Any information would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Elke
p.s. I know there is a beta version of telnet for linux available and
I'd also like to know if I can use this on my linux box (standalone) to
help test an application I'm writing for a real unix network
environment.
