I am attempting to install Linux/SLS 1.02 on two different
machines, and am running into two different problems:

Machine 1: 386/33
            4 megs RAM
            120 & 200 meg IDE HD
1.2 gig SCSI HD w/ Adaptec 1542C controller

Machine 2: Compaq Deskpro 386/20 (older model)
            3 megs RAM
140 meg drive (ESDI or IDE, don't know which)

While booting off of disk A1:

 - Machine 1 gets as far as determining which SCSI devices
   are attached, and then hangs.

 - Machine 2 gets all the way through the initial process to
the point where it tells you to "login as root", and then
   it hangs.

I have tried it on a third machine, a 386/40 with 4 megs RAM
and a 20-meg MFM drive (this one is used only as a
workstation on the LANtastic network, so the hard drive is
used just for bootup and a repository for a few local
files). This machine seems to work, though I did not
complete the installation because I don't have enough drive
space.

Interesting to note that the installation program _will_
recognize the installed Ethernet card in the Compaq, but
will _not_ recognize it in the 386/40 (same card, same I/O
address, same IRQ). I am not going to use the network on
either machine, so I don't really care; just thought that
was an interesting observation ...

Any ideas what is hanging up on the first two machines? BTW
I know the 3 megs in the Compaq isn't really sufficient, but
the docs do say you can squeeze by with two megs, just can't
do very much.

Please reply either here or by e-mail to
epoole@leotech.mv.com ... thanks.
