Some pause after the serial drivers are loaded is normal. It is looking for SCSI devices. My setup would have though because there is a conflict with my
ethernet card. I have not fixed this yet, but pulling out the card solved the
problem. Look for similar conflicts in your set up. (possible port conflicts which dos does not catch).
