From: kdorff@dante.nmsu.edu (Kevin C. Dorff) Subject: Problem installing MCC p10+ Date: 31 Jul 1993 01:50:49 GMT
I am trying to install the latest MCC-INTERIM (0.99p10+) on
my machine:
SCSI, ST-01, 296N drive (irq5)
Partitions: 65 megs in /dev/sda1 (type 83)
16 megs in /dev/sda2 (type 82)
I created the swapspace (got errors on 2 sectors, but it created
it). I activated the swapspace, no problem.
When I try to make the filesystem, I selected ext2, and I do the
whole thing it has a bunch of errors for groups 1-7 and can't
create 8. If I tell it not to use all the sectors, it can
create groups 1-8, but has lots of errors (scsi i/o) for
each group.
Then, if I try to check the fs or install binaries, it can't
find the superblock.
This is getting REALLY frustrating. I have made the fs about
10 times and it takes FOREVER.
Finally, if I partition the disk from cylinder 1-x, is complaints
about not starting on a cylider boundry or something like that.
Also, something about an odd number of sectors. If I do my
partition from 2-x, it says 203 bytes unallocated. I can't
seem to win! Sheesh.
I would appreciate some guidance to get this fs made. I have
been advised to do a "mke2fs -c /dev/sda1 #ofblocks" but
as I can't make a fs, I can't get to a command line and
execute this command (since I am using mcc).
I am not using and older mcc or sls 1.02 because of (what
I was told is a bug) LILO, a bug in an older version.
PLEASE someone give me a hint or two!
Thanks
Kevin
