I have had the exact same problem with Supras and Practical Perhipherals.
ROM upgrades did not help. I am still trying to figure out why. They will
work 99% of the time (dialin/out/uucp/etc, all day long) then for no
apparent reason, I will look at one of them and the CD & OH lights are on
when there is no system there. The modem ignores commands, ignores drops
of DTR (should reset). Only way out of the hangs is a power off.
This does not appear to be a configuration, or hardware problem in the modem
or whatever Unix. It seems to be an "if certain conditions exist" type
of problem. I now bring the count to 4 different modems on differing system
which do this (Linux & SCO) regularly (sometimes once a day).
