I am using a MAXTOR LXT535SY with an Adaptec 1542B for about a year and I
have not had any problems with software so far.
But: It is the only drive i have installed in my machine.

Just to vote in favor of MAXTOR: They are offering a great customer support.
I once had the problem that the drive only occasionaly passed its power on
self test, i reported this problem, the sent me an RMA number.
But this was an advance RMA, so they sent me a new drive and then I sent
back my broken drive.
