From: kutcha@eos.acm.rpi.edu (Phillip Rzewski) Subject: FSP under SLIP: Doesn't work (?) Date: 28 Jul 1993 08:10:15 GMT
I recently got the net-2 (010) SLIP working using the 0.99.11 kernel with
ALPHA diffs patched in. The site I call doesn't support CSLIP, so I am not
using compression. I doubt that should matter though.
Anyway, after seeing that telnet and ftp and such worked well, I got fsp-271
and compiled it. It compiled very cleanly for linux. When I tried to use it,
though, it only worked partially. I could "fls" a site, but if I did "fls -l"
it would start doing that "RIIII" nonsense and never respond. I could "fcd"
around with no problem. I couldn't "fget" at all. In fact, I think there were
some directories where even a straight "fls" got the "RIIII" stuff.
I am using the setup scripts (command aliases and environment variable setups)
from another machine where I use FSP with no problem, so I am quite sure I'm
using the program correctly but some net thing is not cooperating along the
way. What I want to know is:
1) Has anyone else managed to get FSP to work under SLIP with more success than
me?
2) Has anyoen gotten FSP to work through an ethernet connection with more
success than me?
I don't have access to a linux machine on ethernet, so someone else's
experiences might point to possible bugs in SLIP or net-2 overall.
