Subject: xterm/rxvt not logging in and other console woes
Date: Wed, 28 Jul 1993 03:01:17 GMT

I have been noticing somethings about X-windows login etc and thought
this the best place to start. I haven't paid attention to this until I
finally got slip running and have a few friends logging in.

All of my xterms or rxvt windows will not place a utmp entry when they
are ran. I set the command line switches to have then write the entry and
nothing happens. I also noticed my tcsh process gets started two different
ways. One looks like this: -/usr/local/bin/tcsh,
and the other: -usr/local/bin/tcsh. From tracing my tty I can tell that the
second way is the shell for my "logged in" windows. Does this have anything
to do with it?

Also, has a decent X-windows console be completed? XConsole seems to
catch the system messages (or I should say use to, doesn't seem to since
syslogd has been running..) but nothing like talk requests, which I would
assume goto /dev/console. With the VC's is there ever going to be a way to
do this?? Like xconsole works on the suns at school.

  Thanks loads! All help/pointers appreciated.
