Yeah, you have to invite them over, do a whole bunch of stuff at the same
time (they must understand what you're doing) and make them LUST FOR
LINUX. Get them to sit down and play with it. Set up a terminal for them
to play around on so you keep the console to yourself. (X would be another
matter, in that case, get another PC of yours and install it on that...
let them take it home with everything set up for them.)

I haven't had the pleasure of wiping out half the LAN yet.. I don't have a
LAN anywhere to hook up to. :)

Haleluah!

True. But I'm not guilty of that! I sent him a nasty letter, but I didn't
whine to the glorious 'Net about it, because I knew that N hundred other
people we're jaming the spools on the poor administrator's machine who was
hosting the clueless greedy newbie. HEeeee!

Now.. here's a hidden plea for help, destined to be lost amongst the noise:

Does anyone know why I can't call out on /dev/cua1 with my terminal
programs? I've got the modem powering up to not echo anything and not to
send any result codes. I went out and got the 2.0.7 Getty sources and
compiled them up. The line in my /etc/inittab reads: (SysV style)

m1:6:respawn:/etc/getty207 ttyS1 38400

The 38400 line in /etc/gettydefs reads:

38400# B38400 CS8 CRTSCTS # B38400 SANE -ISTRIP CRTSCTS HUPCL # login: #38400

Whenever I try to call out, I get "Device /dev/cua1 busy." or something
like that. I have to run an "init 5" to turn off the getty running on the
modem to be able to dial out. (And by the way, there seems to be a bug in
the init program that sends the "....."'s to the wrong VC when its
SIGTERMing processes and SIGKILLing processes, but that's a petty and
minor thing...)

Oh well... see, I really didn't want this program answered, so I hid it in
here. I figure that its sitting there screaming at me in the Serial FAQ,
but I haven't found the inclination or time to fix it. I'm happy just
running "init 5" to "fix" it.
