Yeah. I had the same problem. The way I fixed it? Well, all along I
thought that my MTU had to match the SLIP server. WRONG. I set it
down. WAY down. My server takes 1500, I got the problem to go away
when I set it to 600 or below. Sound like a linux bug to you?

Anyway, that has taken care of most of my problems. I've got slip
running, and it's great. I still have a small problem. If I try to nfs
mount a disk (I know, why would you do that? well, I was just stress
testing the setup...and it stressed out) I can cd and df on the
partition. I just can't ls. It just sits there.

Also, I switched from the SLS distribution to the MCC one...which had
all the stuff configured correctly. In particular, the problem with
ifconfig not wanting to config sl0 after lo has been set went away.

MCC doesn't have everything you want, probably, but it is a better
stepping stone to the net.

Good luck.
