Subject: [HELP] [Q]: 2nd AT disk controller?
Date: 11 Jul 1993 14:04:16 -0700

Hi all,

I thought I would have my troubles resolved when I went to SLS 1.02, but
alas I still am unable to accesses my third hard disk using Linux. I'm
unable to get it to recognize my second AT controller. I've read the
FAQ for June 1993 (6/7/93 post).

My system is a Gateway 2000 4DX2-66V. I have three IDE hard disk
drives. The GW2000 has two IDE controllers built into the motherboard.
MS/DOG 6.0 find the three drives okay, but Linux is struggling.

Drive 1 is a 200M Seagate with LILO and MS/DOG 6.0 on it.
Drive 2 is a 340M Caviar getting SLS 1.02 Linux (ext2fs) installed on it.
Drive 3 is a 80M Conner with SLS 1.00 Linux (extfs) installed on it.

I follow the FAQ and create a set of device files for hdc with the major
number of 22 and the apropriate minor numbers. When I try to mount the
/dev/hdc1 (mount -t ext /dev/hdc1 /mnt), I get this error:

ll_rw_block: Trying to read nonexistent block-device 1601 (1)
EXT-fs: unable to read superblock
mount: wrong fs type, /dev/hdc1 already mounted, /mnt busy, or other error

If I try to fdisk /dev/hdc I get the following error message:

Unable to open /dev/hdc

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
