Subject: X on a Radix 9" Mono Monitor
Date: Sat, 10 Jul 1993 19:31:11 GMT

I am interested in getting a Radix 19" monochrome monitor for my 486
with a VESA local bus. It is my intention to use it with X running over
Linux.

Unfortunately, the person selling the Radix monitor can't give me
information about the monitor, other than that 1) it works, and 2) that
it came from a MacIntosh.

It is my secret fantasty to have a 1420x1024 mono screen on my 486. I
assume that the Radix can go this high. Am I correct? Is it a good
monitor? Will I go blind with this one?

Would X run under this configuration? If so, what video card would I
need to use? A Hercules Mono card? Are there any special caveats I should be
aware of? Is X only runnable under VGA?

The standard configuration seems to be 1024x768x256, which is fine and
dandy with all the VGA cards I see on the market. However, I just want
1420x1024x2 without paying an awful lot for a VGA card that has more
colors than I want.

What can I do? Any help would be much appreciated.

                                                Thanks,

                                                        Derrick
