Subject: SLS-A1 Disk Problems
Date: Fri, 9 Jul 1993 14:57:15 GMT

Ok, let's start from the beginning. I have a linux system that is running
on a 386-20 with an 80MB IDE drive. I was building a 486-66 16M RAM,
240MB SCSI drive, adaptec 1542C controller, and ET4000 video. Just when
I started to boot sls-a1, it wouldn't detect the 1542C controller. I looked
in the newsgroup for the same problem and tried every method: i.e. turning
off the bios and such. None of this worked so I went to the first system
and made changes to the aha1542.c source and remade the kernel. After
hours of trying I had to put 'printk("");' statements in the
aha1542_text_port() function. I couldn't determine why except that the
IDLE bit was set on the test that failed 'debug=6'. I placed 4 printk's
like the one above before the statements: debug=3, debug=4, debug=5, debug=6
and that allowed the test to pass and detect the SCSI controller.

Now, I have the kernel rebuilt with the fix and requested information on
how to create a new a1 disk. B. D. Elliott sent me the information on
creating a new a1 disk (Thanks) but it seems I have an older version and
I cannot mount a copy of the a1 disk. I have limited internet access and
would like someone to please mail me or send me EXACT path and host where
I can retrieve a new a1 disk image. It seems that I also need the information
on obtaining the lilo source and/or program to generate the boot disk.

                                        pre-Thanks,

P.S. Thanks Mr. Elliott for the info, this may just work!!!
