Ahh. Quite like the good old days in c.o.minix - flame wars on design.
This is going to be a good one ;-)

Quite simply, the "excuse" is that it works and is simple and efficient,
something that I personally think is more important than many of the
advantages claimed by microkernel designs. Mircokernels aren't simple,
whatever people have been trying to tell you, and they have design
problems too. Linux is not actually badly designed or coded, it's just
not using the latest buzzwords.
