It appears I now have Linux (0.99pl10) able to accept logins
from one of the serial ports (COM2, accessed as cua1).

Except ...

When I log on as root, it asks me for the password, and when
I enter the password it tells me "Login incorrect". The
same login and the same password from the local console
works fine.

I have gone through all my FAQs and about three weeks' worth
of c.o.l. and can't find this discussed anywhere.
