Here I must object. There is a *lot* of high-quality free software
out there on internet. The developers had no other incentive than
personal pride and the joy of hacking. These can be very powerful
incentives.
        I don't know about NT. The things I've heard about it have
not been good. But Linux is a very good example of quality software
created for no other reason than the developers' pride in their work.
(Here I'm talking about all the high-quality free software -- The
Linux kernel, all the GNU utilities that are used, emacs, TeX, the
list goes on and on).
