Subject: Does pl10/net-2 panic for you?
Date: 07 Jul 1993 13:23:27 GMT

Hi,

I have been using pl10 for a while now on a laptop connected to a
fairly heavily loaded ethernet network using a WD clone. The
functionality is good, ftp telnet etc all work ok.

My problem is that every now and again the kernel gets a general
protection violation somewhere in the network code. The EIP value
suggests it was in destroy_sock() at the time. (BTW how do I get to
source line number from the EIP value)

Sometimes the machine just locks up with no panic message at all (when
not running X).

I am currently using libc 4.4 and X 1.3.

Running X 1.3 does seem to make it crash more often but I guess that's
because it stresses the net stuff more.

Before moving to pl10 the machine never crashed even under heavy usage.

So, has anyone else noticed this problem? and if so, are there any
known fixes?

Sorry this is so vague, I am happy to provide more info to anyone who
can help me.

regards

markb
