Companies like Cygnus. There are now a dozen (?) companies
supporting Linux.

Large corps use emacs and gcc for mission critical stuff (e.g. using
gcc to develop code which goes into PROMs). Companies like Cygnus
give them levels of uptime and on-call response which are adequate.
