It might be a little waste of space, but what about this approach (only
appicable before making the linux filesystem) :
make this room a logical partition under msdos, format it there, create one
large file (it will be continuous on the virgin dos fs), use xiafs on the
linux side, so that you can leave free the space occupied by fats and msdos
directory at the beginning of the partition.
