From: genie@netcom.com (Gene Choi) Subject: A simple GENERIC word processor Date: Tue, 6 Jul 1993 08:31:36 GMT
Hi there,
I'm looking for a very generic simple ASCII word processor
for any platform that provides full sources (i.e. isn't
a commercial product) that can actually produce output
in postscript format. Sure, there's latex (and all its
flavors) and other document formatters, but I'm looking for
more like a simple wordperfect-like word processor with flexibilities
of a text editor like "jove" or "emacs". LaTeX takes
a some getting used to and learning. And lots of people
have difficulties learning these, and may seem pretty cryptic
to those who first approach TeX documents.
I know that there are plenty of commercial products available for
DOS, MAC, PC machines, but I find such a product missing on
most unix machines unless under X11 (and even then, not very
common), or under commercial unix products (at a very hefty hefty
price). What I'm looking for is running the word processor
under any terminal or via modem.
I'm on this search because I'm looking for exactly this product,
and if one doesn't exist, I am thinking of writing one as a long -
term project. Any comments, info on this project, such a project,
etc are welcome. Please send your comments via e-mail.
Thanks.
Gene
