From: ege@blitz (Dr. Raimund K. Ege) Subject: lpr and parallel port Date: Mon, 5 Jul 1993 17:00:49 GMT
I am trying to set up my laser printer on the parallel
port of my newly installed SLS Linux.
Printing is possible by "cat"ing directly into /dev/lp1,
however, lpr queues jobs but is not able to access the
printer. lpq reports:
Warning: no daemon present
Rank Owner Job Files Total Size
1st root 0 f.ps 24601 bytes
When I try to restart the printer queue with lpc I get:
lpc: connect: No such file or directory
couldn't start daemon
My printcap entry is very simple:
lp:lp=/dev/lp1:sh
Am I missing something ? Any help is appreciated.
P.S.: there are two versions of the lpr, lpc, lpd commands
on my system. One in /etc, the other in /usr/bin.
Diff reports that they are different. Which is the
correct one ?
