Subject: [Q] Linux pl10 io_ctl question
Date: 1 Jul 1993 10:50:27 GMT

Hi there fellow Linuxers,

Can any one help me with a small problem with Linux pl10.
I re-installed SLS from 0.97 to 2.01. I then followed the
instuctions in the net-2 FAQ so I have all the packages
I need to get netting.

But one small problems persists why do I get this warning at boot
time :

WARNING: Old style io_ctl called (SET_IP_DEV)

Confused!

Also when I upgraded to SLS 2.01 the mkfs command was not there
it seems that SLS want people to use the e2fs. However I set e2fs
up and had BIG problems. Every time I made a disk access the file
system would get more and more corrupted. Using e2fsck made matters
worse. Within 1/2 hour linux was dead. I have now gone back to the
MINIX/Linux file system which caused me no problems before.

Last but not least! I after I re-compile any of the kernels I've used.
Which are to date pl4 pl6 pl9 pl10 I can never get the program top
to work. It always dies with a floating-point exception.
I specify kernel math emulation in make config but also used the
486 optimisation flags. The out-of-the-box SLS kernel has always
worked with top.

My set up is as follows:

        486sx (no sniggers please)
        4 Meg RAM
        120 Meg IDE drive (40Meg Linux - 80Meg DOS6)
        Cirrus logic Hi-colour vga card.
        2 Serial ports
        2 parallel ports

confused ( as always)

P.S I have read the FAQ
