From: mwright@orac.holonet.net (Matthew Wright) Subject: SLS 1.02 a1.5 hangs on boot Date: Thu, 1 Jul 1993 05:25:12 GMT
I am attempting to install the SLS distribution of Linux ftp'd
from tsx-11.mit.edu. I am using the a1.5 boot disk (and encountered the
same problem with the a1.test disk). I have gone through all of the
applicable FAQ's and text files I could find and have not been able to
find any information to help me.
Problem: I boot of my a1.5 disk, I get the LILO prompt. I hit enter and
receive the prompt to select video modes (I have tried selecting different
modes this did not correct my problem.) My screen then goes through a few
steps "Unpacking Linux..." "Booting Kernel..." "Console: Ega+.." and here
it hangs completely unresponsive and no activity on any of the drives.
My System:
Packard Bell 386sx 16mhz
Phoenix Tech. Ltd. Bios 1.10.02
Phoenix VGA Bios 1.05 00
ISA
Standard AT drive controller
4 mb (4 1mbx9 simms) ram
139 mb hd
5 1/4 1.2m & 3 1/2 1.44m
Installed cards are simply a sound blaster pro
and a serial card w/16550 chips.
From all I have read this system should work with Linux, though it is at
the bottom of the requirements scale, I believe it should work, but it
doesn't. Also I have checked the CMOS setup and verified it with Norton
6.0 and the system is configured as listed above. Thanks in advanced for
the help.
