From: hymowitz@circle.cs.jhu.edu (Hymie!) Subject: 0.99.4 killed my /dev/ttys0 Date: 29 Jan 1993 06:09:21 GMT
well, i just upgraded to 0.99.4, and ran into a small (well, big)
problem.
alas, when i ran ckermit 5a, i get an error that looked something like:
i/o error - unable to read character
and if i hit a key before this error appears, then i get:
i/o error - unable to send character.
unfortuantely, there is no more detail than that. i tried all of the
obvious (to me) things - trying /dev/ttys1, recompiling different
set-ups for the kernel, stuff like that. i have had no luck.
so, i am back to 0.99.2. here is my current .config setup for 99.4:
math-emulation, block-dev-hd, config-tcpip, config-profile, config-max-16m,
all 5 file systems, keyboard-meta, auto-irq.
perhaps anybody else has seen this problem, and knows what i did wrong?
(i assume it's my fault - it usually is.)
by the way, i got lpr to work - among the things i did wrong was that i
didn't have a user daemon:*:1:1:... set up correctly, and a couple
of permissions were wrong- i had missed them when i read the faq file.
*oops*
and i got term1.0.2 working, but at 2400 baud it's a bit too slow to use
seriously. but i have it if i ever need the extra consoles... thanx!
thanx in advance,

I've got an answer. I'm going to fly away. What have I got to lose?
