Subject: Bringing up X the first time

I'm bringing up X11 on a pc with a Trident 8900c card and
a NEC Multisync 3FGx colour monitor. I see I need a
particular Xconfig for this combination. I've tried the
two suggestions in the FAQ but all they give is a sound
like a twig being snapped, and a blank screen.

Does anyone have a suitable Xconfig for this combination.
failing that how can I work it out for myself (i.e how
do the modegen.sc files work) ?

All help gratefully received.
