Okay, now before anyone flames me, I DO understand what the problem is here, I just am wondering
how other people have dealt with it.

I've had Linux running for a while now. I have lpr/lpd more or less working. However ---

It appears that the lp driver just happily copies characters out to the printer device, doing
no conversions at all. Thus if you cat a file to the printer or just use lpr with no filter,
the printer gets new lines, but no carriage returns. Now all kinds of solutions to this
occur to me - just wondering what solutions other people use for this? I"m kind of
surprised this isn't in the FAQ. Am I just doing something real silly, or is it just
that the problem is "obvious"? All the docs I've seen essentially say "just cat the file to the printer".
What if your printer doesn't insert cr on each line?

Anyway - what do other people do about this?
