I had problem of a similar kind, but with the Minix-fs. I twice lost
files from /usr/bin. The first time it was 'ls', which I was able to
restore from an older instalation, that I still had on an other
partition. The second time my 'make.new' vanished, although I did
write-protect all files in the entire directory. In both cases the
lenght of the file was set to zero, so the system didn't crash, but
the commands were lost.
I am using system 0.99r2 with 8 meg RAM and 16 meg swap-device. Never
had that problem with 0.98r5.
