I'm having some major, major problems with lilo and linux on
my system and I hope that some kind person can help me.
I'm using Linux SLS 0.98 pl 1-37
and Lilo 0.8
My setup is two hard disks with Dos, OS/2 and Linux.
I'd like to use the OS/2 2.0 Boot manager to select which operating system
boots at start up. OS2 and Linux are on my second hard disk with the
boot manager on the first.
Firstly, in my LILO config file I had used boot=/dev/hdb5 when I had
installed Linux in an extended partition. This allowed Linux to boot
but came up with the error, file system not valid (or some such thing)
I couldn't even use the boot disk to reboot.
Then after reinstalling Linux in a primary partition on the second disk
I tried using boot=/dev/hda2 ie, that was a pointer to the second disk.
as indicated in the LILO manual.
However after using the boot manager selector I got !OS 2 SYS XXX error
and of course, no boot.
Then I tried boot=/dev/hda3 in the config file. With the boot manager
I now get just the "L" in LILO comming up. with these last two methods
I can still boot Linux from floppy.
Perhaps some kind soul could elighten me on where I should put what
in order to produce the results I require.
My current disk set up is,
/
/dev/hda1 736 736 751 1088 OPUS
/dev/hda2 227 227 735 34612 Extd
/dev/hda3 1 1 124 15359 DOS
/dev/hda5 227 227 735 34603 DOS
/dev/hdb1 528 528 722 64642 Linux
/dev/hdb2 1 1 124 41080 DOS
/dev/hdb3 125 125 527 133594 Extd
/dev/hdb5 125 125 341 71910 DOS
/dev/hdb6 342 342 527 61633 DOS
and my config file for LiIO is
boot=/dev/hda3
compact
install=/etc/lilo/boot.b
image=/Image
any and all help would be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks,
David Bell
