Ah, now I have a slightly different version of this...

Running 0.96pl3 with a WD8031 on IRQ3; I can reliably get a freeze just by
compiling the kernel. At that point I can type at the keyboard but can see
nothing - I can't even switch VCs. I can then unfreeze the system by sending
a single packet (any sort of packet - maybe a ping) to the ethernet card, and
the characters which I typed miraculously appear... Hmmm....

Maybe there is an sti() missing somewhere?

I think I can also get this to happen on 0.99pl1 as well - but it didnt
happen when I used a WD8003 card on a different interupt. I shall grab one from
work this week end to see if it makes any difference.

Phil

ps Apologies to anyone with whom I still have outstanding mail.. I will catch
up on my replies soonest...
