: Sounds like you need to go through your directories from / on down and
: check out the permissions and owners on each file.
: When I installed linux initially I took for granted that the
: permission flags would all be set properly. After posing a few
: questions which I now look back on as stupid (really just overlooked
: solutions), it was brought to my attention to check permission flags.
: And sure enough, a great many files were set as:
: -rw------- root etc., etc., etc.,
: This of course is not practical in a multiuser system unless all users
: are root, and that of course would be catastrophic.
: Things like password files have to be -rw-r--r-- so that all login
: accounts can get the needed info.
: Just make sure you don't give write accesses that could be detrimental
: to the operation of the system or to security if that is a concern.
: In case you are a unix newbie I recommend a book introducing you to
: UNIX. You should probably find them in most book stores. For a quick
: start, the command to change permissions is:
: chmod
: Do a: 'man chmod' to get info on it. (hopefully a man page exists for
: it.) But you would be best of with a UNIX book explanation if you are
: new to it.

The problem is not with permissions! You would know if you read all of this
thread that others are also getting this shell-init permission denied. Even if it were a permission problem that would not have anything to do with the fact
that now non root users get a core dump problem if they try to run menu. Help
like this is really!!! no help to anyone. This only came up as of the last SLS
release. As for my self I have been using Linux since june so I'm not hardly a newbie.
