From: jem@sunSITE.unc.edu (Jonathan Magid) Subject: SLS 1.0 getty/login problem with modem Date: Tue, 19 Jan 1993 04:39:13 GMT
Hi,
I've been helping a friend get a Linux BBS going on his 386-25 with
2 megs of memory. So we downloaded SLS 1.0 (actually just copied it
from sunsite, no downloading neccesary. :) ) and I installed it.
Unfortunately it seems to have moved to the Sys V init/getty combination
and I am afraid that I don't understand it exactly.
The problem comes with setting up the modem line.
I put this in the inittab
s1:respawn:getty -t60 2400,1200,300 ttys1
and HUP init. Getty seems to respond to its own "login:" message as a login
attempt, and spawns a login, which reacts to the next login message as
a password. which of course fails. and so on, until init says
"gettys spawning to quickly. shutting down for 5 minutes"
I've turned off the echoing (ate0) which kept the "RING" from being similarly
interpreted, but nothing else.
I've also tried "wait" instead of "respawn" but then it doesn't answer
the phone.
What am I missing here?
thanks,
jem.
