Subject: Where to begin?

About a week ago I ordered a 486-66 from Gateway after being a devoted Amiga
user for years. One of the things I'm most looking foward to using on this
platform is Linux.

I haven't been reading this newsgroup much at all and don't even know where
to start.

I would like to start with the basic OS and X-Windows. After setting up
this raw setup, I'll expand it with utilities and stuff but I first need
the fundamental parts.

Which files would include Linux and X-Windows, how large would the archives
be and about how large would it be when everything is installed? There are
probably a billion options when installing the system but would somebody
fill me in on what the minimum and maximum space just Linux and X would
take up? Thanks a lot. Any additional help would be appreciated.
