Before I promise that I can supply a solution to a problem I've been asked
about using linux, I wondered if anyone (Ted?) could tell me if this would
work.

I want to run a 386 with no VGA support and 24-40 serial ports as a terminal
concentrator, well, more like a multiplexor I guess. The maximum number of
characters going thru the system would be 32K/sec with none of the ports
running higher than 9600baud.

My initial plan was to use a 386 motherboard and a load of fourport serial
cards to route 16 serial connections to 16 of 24 terminals, from a box with
no display.
Will the Fourport cards that are supported in the kernel allow the system
(running at 33MHz or above) cope with the number of interrupts?
Are there cards with a larger number of ports around?

And for readers in the UK, how much can I get Fourport or better cards
with 16550's for? (Pounds Sterling please, suggested outlets?)

Thanks for your time
