Greetings everyone,
I'm looking into upgrading my 386sx box by changing motherboards,
and with Intel's efforts to kill off the 386 and the price war
going on with these chips, there is a considerable price difference
between getting a 40 MHz 386DX board (and adding a 387), and getting a
486DX @ 33 MHz. The latter is about #UK 150 more expensive (for that
money I could get, say, an extra 6 Meg of Ram).
Does anyone know what the speed difference is likely to be between
two such motherboards, assuming everything else (eg cache memory)
is the same? My first guess would be that they'd be roughtly the same,
because of the more efficient 486 would make up for a slower clock. Do
you have strong feelings about whether the price difference is worth it?
I intend to run mosly Linux with X11, if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance,
John
