Hello Linux Fans!
Linux and Adaptec1542B cooperate very well. The 1542B controller is
supported by the bootdisks of the SLS distribution.
Devices are sdx9
^^
|\ numerical value for partition (0 whole disk, 1.. partitions)
\ alphabetical value for drive (a..)
a is the drive with lowest SCSI
b next etc. (SCSI id's need not to be consecutive
without gaps - any combinations allowed -
without those with double numbers of course)
If you use removable media (I am using Syquest 44MB Cartridges)
and you want to (re)compile the 0.99px kernel you have to choose no
at the question for the always in option.
Removable drives have to be unmounted before you can get them out -
but 0.99x Linux is very clever (tested in conjunction with AHA1542B)
the green drive led stays on and the drive refuses unload until you
really unmount it!
Well done by Linux and his programming community!!!
Feel free for further questions!
Happy hacking!
