From: DO@cup.portal.com (JEFF SCOTT MARCUS) Subject: Need help booting Linux off HD Date: 2 Jan 1993 01:00:57 GMT
I am having troubles installing Lilo .7 on my system. I am trying to
install it on a 100MB IDE with an 8MB DOS active partition and a 64MB
Linux partition. I finaly got Lilo installed (and kept from stomping my
DOS primary) and DOS boots up fine, Linux however does not. Here is my
Lilo config. file -
install=/etc/lilo/boot.b
boot=/dev/hda
delay=10
other=/dev/hda1
table=/dev/hda
image=/Image
When I run Lilo I get this message -
Reading boot sector from /dev/hda
Merging with /etc/lilo/boot.b
Device 0x0302: BIOS drive 0x80, 7 heads, 868 cylinders,
34 sectors. Partition offset: 12376 sectors.
Secondary loader: 3 sectors.
Device 0x0302: BIOS drive 0x80, 7 heads, 868 cylinders,
34 sectors. Partition offset: 34 sectors.
Mapped 2 (1+1) sectors.
Added hda1
<dev=0x80,hd=4,cyl=122,sct=67>
Boot image: /Image
Device 0x0302: BIOS drive 0x80, 7 heads, 868 cylinders,
34 sectors. Partition offset: 12376 sectors.
Mapped 846 sectors.
Added Image
<dev=0x80,hd=4,cyl=122,sct=68>
Map file size: 7168 bytes.
Now when I boot Linux everything looks normal until it reaches the
"partition tables ok" message and then I get -
MINIX-fs: Unable to read superblock
EXT-fs: Unable to read superblock (never used mkefs)
MSDOS bread failed
isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev 0x343 iso_blknum16
Kernel panic: Unable to mount root
And then it dies :( I am brand new to Linux/Unix and cant find mention in
the docs I have (and dont know how to use TeX to read the large Lilo
docs, sniff) so would some kind soul please help me out ... hmmmmm??
Oh btw, I am using the latest SLS root/boot release.
