Subject: Linux SLS questions
Date: Fri, 1 Jan 1993 06:16:24 GMT

I have just finished downloading the version of SLS that resides on tsx-11.mit.
edu and have installed it on my pc. Now comes some questions!

First, after installing and using mkfs on my linux partition, linux sometimes
comes up with an "Unexpected HD Interrupt" on the screen between prompts. It
can be (but is not always related to) actions that I have taken on the disk.
When I mount my MS-DOS filesystem, I get a slew of errors and then the thing
works great?!?! Do I have to recompile the kernal to rid myself of this
problem? The linux version is 0.98p5 and I am running it on a 386sx-25 with
4MB of RAM and a 105MB IDE hard drive with a Boca AT-IDE+ hard drive controller.
I have never experienced any incompatibilities with the drive or controller
under MS-DOS...have I bumped into something with linux?

Second, what is the latest version of Xfree86? The one I dl'd with SLS does
not support my SVGA card (TVGA8900D) and I don't have a copy of the mono
Xconfig that will work. Any suggestions?!

Thanks in advance for all the help. I would ask that any suggestions pls be
emailed to me as well as posted on the newsgroup...I don't get onto the net
very often and probably won't find the answer in the group!

Thanks in advance for all the help!
