From: mjd@kepler.unh.edu (Martin J Dempsey) Subject: slow response w/telnet and rlogin Date: 25 Feb 1993 19:39:13 GMT
telnet to my linux machine don't work well. there is a delay of approx 5 seconds before the
linux machine responds to keystrokes from a remote machine. keystrokes are not even echoed
for the delay time. eventually, each and every keystroke will be recieved. rlogin is worse,
can't seem to get past the passwd prompt. ftp to the linux machine works correctly as well
as all local commands and rlogin, telnet, ftp, ping, named from the linux machine.
has anyone seen this problem? i don't have a clue.
this problem occurs with the 0.99pl4 kernel from SLS and 0.99pl6. login was also upgraded
to poe-1.11 to no effect. i am using a 486/33 with future domain scsi and smc elite 16
ethernet card. the scsi adapter is at irq5 so i built a kernel with the ethernet
adapter elsewhere ( irq 11 ). The system runs perfectly at the console and on the network
except for attempts to telnet or rlogin to the linux box. telent, rlogin, ftp, ping, and
so on work fine from the linux machine. i checked that the rlogind and telnetd were the
current copy available on sunsite.unc.edu. suns and hps of various types all report the
same problem with telnet and rlogin.
