Subject: Help! error with respawning too fast (again)

Thanks to all who suggested some fixes to me earlier posts
about the respawning too fast error while trying to hook another
computer (or terminal) directly to the com1 port of my computer.
the following were suggested:
1) verify that your null modem has all the connections made properly
2) connect something to the serial port
3) check gettydef to see if local is set

 I did all of these and i still* get the respawning error too fast error
 will attempt in 5 minutes

 does anyone* have an idea on how to fix this?
 i have this set in inittab:
 c6:6:respawn:/bin/getty 9600 ttyS0
